Hi Everyone... I meant to let everyone know after my last panic-y storm post that everything is well. Henry and I made it through the 'weather armageddon' just swimmingly.

Not a lot of other news to report. I'm in sports heaven this week... Wimbledon and Euro (go spain!).

And I'm thinking of getting another dog.

Either another sweet precious Henry (if such a thing exists), or I'm thinking of a different route... although a matched pair of pugs is really appealing to someone like me who absolutely loveloveloves symmetry, but I really think these are super cute.

Their size and temperament is supposed to be similar to pugs.

Opinions?

An attorney I work for was talking to a couple of friends who are meteorologists and they had received a report from the National Weather Service that said that Wichita was "the epicenter of a weather armaggedon tonight".

What?

That doesn't sound good, but the meteorologists felt that the NWS was overreacting. The local TV meteorologists are notorious for overreacting and if they're accusing someone else of that it seems like the pot calling the kettle black and so I just don't know what to believe.

Deep breath.

It seems I might die tonight in a rain/wind/flood/baseball-sized hail/tornado armaggedon. It was really nice knowing you.
3rd-Jun-2008 12:41 pm - This is probably the most manic post I've ever written... I apologize in advance
<boys> Rafa
So it's been almost a month, here's a list of things and happenings that have been coloring my world:

A/C woes! It works then it doesn't then it does and I'm about to punch someone in the face for making my poor ickle Henry Piddlepants suffer in the heat.

Formula One! You guys I LOVE Formula One. Usually I hate car racing, but it's super fun and kind of glamorous.

Tennis! You guys the FRENCH OPEN is happening right now! Seriously... you should be watching it right now. Go Rafa!

Soccer! Euro starts in about 3 days... Go Spain (or Vamos Spain!)and Portugal!

Kansas City! I just got back from seeing EDDIE IZZARD in Kansas City. So so funny.

Horse Racing! Big Brown... that son of a bitch might just do it.

So basically it's just party, party, party around here. Plus we've got Wimbledon coming up and maybe a trip to NYC (but maybe not because when I start to think about the money involved I start to pee my pants a little bit) and more Formula One and I've already had nightmares about that new movie 'The Strangers' and I haven't even seen it yet...

okay...I've exceeded my exclamation point quotient in this post so I'm going to stop now.

Here's a question: What song most reminds you of summer time when you were a kid?

<the office> rape
I had to call the police the other day!

It's like all of the sudden you move to the big city (and I use that phrase very loosely here) and all sorts of crime starts happening all up in your face!

I think I may have prevented a rape... or at least a robbery, but I'm also probably on someone's hit list now. So it's probably a wash.

Here's something else you should know: my [info]trashy_eats community has over 1500 members!!! What the effing eff?

I moved!

Yes... I moved into an apartment all by myself (with Henry, of course).

I'm suddenly a big, grown-up type person with a fireplace and more juice glasses than I could ever use.

Henry even has his own chair!

It's all very exciting.

As soon as I get my furniture and get everything unpacked I'm planning on taking some photos and pretending that everyone is interested in seeing them. So watch for it.
7th-Mar-2008 12:53 pm - Memories of a Consumer Whored-Out Childhood

Today I started thinking about Tinkerbell nail polish and the second I started thinking about it I could vividly remember exactly how it smelled and how it peeled off after about 2 seconds, and I was instantly transported back to age 5.

Then I started thinking about other things I will forever associate with very specific periods of my childhood.

In 3rd grade there was Lisa Frank school supplies. I specifically remember my turquoise scottie dog pencil sharpener that all of the girls in my class wanted to borrow.

In 5th grade there were Bongo jean shorts and K-Swiss canvas shoes... both of which I coveted greatly, but never actually owned.

In 6th grade there was Charlie perfume.

7th grade: Covergirl lipslicks lipgloss in sheer bronze. We used it on our lips and on our eyelids. I specifically remember my best friend and I putting it on every day after lunch in the gym while we waited for our teacher.

The summer between 7th and 8th grade will always smell like mix of chlorine and Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers and sound like the song 'All Over You' by Live (it was a big hit that summer).

What products/sights/sounds/smells do you associate with your formative years?

He is a bloodhound. He is very clumsy. He thinks my leg is his girlfriend sometimes. He would gladly let you carry him around like a baby for hours. He is our new family dog.

P.S. Henry wants to point out to everyone that Buck cannot run nearly as fast as he can, and he doesn't even own an iPhone.
21st-Feb-2008 12:24 pm - From the 'There's Someone For Everyone' File

When I'm having a particularly bad day (like, say, yesterday) or even just on a normal day, I like to escape to a little file I keep in my head I call the 'There's Someone For Everyone' file.

This file consists of little episodes that I've witnessed that just give me hope that there really and truly is somebody out there in the big wide world for every person... even me.

Most of the episodes I've collected have happened at the courthouse. Part of my job involves me going to the courthouse at least once a day. For most people the courthouse is the last place you want to be... being at the courthouse means you are having a bad day. The worst floors are 5, 6 and 7 (traffic court, criminal court and family law court)... you aren't going to get any warm fuzzies around those parts, but the 9th floor is warm fuzzy central.

The 9th floor is where people go to adopt babies and get marriage licenses. I truly believe it's one of the happiest places on earth.

I just love watching the couples applying for marriage licenses, and you can always tell who is there to get a marriage license (even before the ever get to the 9th floor) because they are the only people who actually look happy to be at the courthouse.

Sometimes they are just your normal average 20-somethings, but you also see a lot of middle-aged couples who are probably on their second (or third) marriages. Once it was a little, teeny-tiny couple... they were probably at least 70. They were so excited and adorable and absolutely in love.

But it's not just those couples... the sweet and adorable ones... that make me happy. Sometimes it's the people you come across that seem absolutely unmarriage-able... maybe even unloveable. Maybe they are attrociously ugly or really, really grouchy and hateful... but somebody out there loves them, and, I tell ya, some days just seeing that has the cynic that lives right in the middle of my heart tap-dancing through the rest of her day.

It's reassuring to know that even if you may be missing all of your teeth at age 40, that even then you can have not one, but two men vying for your affections because there truly is someone for everyone... or some kind of sentimental crap like that.

He was a week old in this photo... the first time I ever saw him.

I still try to hold him like this sometimes... he hates it a lot. )
